Self – Image A matter of perception, a poor or healthy self image can become self-fulfilling. The bible says, ‘that as a man thinks in his heart so is he'. People who have a great positive self-image about themselves are more likely to accomplish goals, take risks, and try new things. This often translates into more successes, which reinforce their positive image of themselves, empowering them to keep moving forward in life. The same cause and effect is often true for people with a poor self image. They're reluctant to step out of their comfort zone, often turning down opportunities for growth. Never stretching, they seem to be in a state of
no motivation, no determination which often leads them into a state
of depression, hopelessness, and disappointment. Unhealthy Comparisons When we as women or teenage look at the media, we often begin to look at ourselves in the mirror only to find disappointment and discouragement, because we don't in our eyes fit the bill. The bill is those of us who define beauty by the sum total of what society say that we should look like. One of the biggest emotional and psychological problems that is plaguing women and teenage girls is they're quest for the perfect body. We spend billions of dollars trying to fix what imperfections that we believe are not going to give us the love and attention that we want as women and girls. Only 2% of the women in the US believe that they are beautiful. Studies show that more than 80 percent --- would change something about themselves. Social pressures causes us to look at ourselves with disappointment and discouragement believing that if we could alter our body shape, or our hair, etc., then maybe my husband would come, or maybe my husband would love me more. To our young girls maybe they will believe that if I show my body I will get the attention, or be the most popular. Both of which causes women and girls sell their bodies in exchange for love. Developing a Positive Self Image Developing a positive self-image must be a deliberate act. This development requires your very participation in that it requires that we rid ourselves of old, bad, and nasty habits. Developing a positive image is a learned behavior. It requires us as men, women, and teenagers to take an honest and truthful look at the things that causes us to have negative and self-sabotaging images. The devil uses imagery of past hurts, pains, past failures as away of keeping us bound by the chains in our mind, that say to us that we will never be free. In order for us to remove these old ideas we must look into the word of God to see what thus says the Lord. This process will be difficult and at times overwhelming but it is through this process that healing begins to take place and where Jesus begins to change our perception as to how He views us. The bible says, ‘to let this mind be in you that is also in Christ Jesus.' Developing a new and positive self-image requires change in that it will not be easy but it will be worth it.
